Our Origins
The North Eastern Regional Chapter (NERC) of the Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists (IAPM) was conceived during the 26th Annual Conference of IAPM in 1978 at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. Spearheaded by Late Dr. B.D. Baruah and supported by pioneers like Late Dr. L.M. Kakoty and others from across the region, the chapter was created to connect professionals across remote corners of Northeast India.

Milestones
The first annual meeting of NERC IAPM took place at RIMS, Imphal. It was a landmark event with lectures, workshops, and scientific paper presentations. Since then, conferences have been hosted at prominent locations including Shillong, Gauhati Medical College, Oil India Duliajan, ONGC Hospital Sibsagar, Silchar Medical College, Agartala, Gangtok, Tezpur, Kohima, and NEIGRIHMS.
The conferences also introduced an Oration in Late Prof. B.D. Baruah’s name, PG and UG quiz competitions, awards for best presentations, and more.
Vision & Growth
What started as a way to reach remote professionals in the 1970s has grown into a prestigious platform for academic exchange and scientific excellence. With over 250 delegates attending each annual conference, NERC IAPM continues to promote excellence in pathology and microbiology.
Today, the chapter proudly represents pathologists and microbiologists across all seven northeastern states and Sikkim. It fosters unity, knowledge exchange, and collaborative advancement in the field.
"Long live the North East Regional Chapter of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (NERC IAPM)!"
